It has been awhile and with good reason. We are busy! The summer wasn't and so I have no excuse there.

The summer was pretty slow. The kids we work with went home to their passport countries. We spent most of our time planning for the coming school year and getting the house more suited for us. In July, we got to have our first house guests. Nick's parents came for two weeks and we loved it. The kids had a blast and we showed them all over Dusseldorf.

Since the end of August we have been super busy. Lots of meetings, events, and clubs every week it seems like. Keeping busy helps us get through the fact we are so far away from all our family.

We love it here but there are days I get annoyed. I miss a lot of things and conveniences. I can't wait to step into Costco and Target when we visit the states-you have no idea! I also miss me some Red Robin and grossly enough, Taco Bell.

We know we are in the right place and we are greatly enjoying YouthCompass and the kids that are involved. Our kids love the big kids too. It's great to watch them interact.

Our computer is very slow or it's the internet connection..i dont know.

I've tried to upload photos several times but it takes FOREVER. 10 min and it was only at 18%.

Anyway.

We are loving it here in Germany. We have been going like crazy ever since we arrived here. Nick left for 10 days for Albania with the students to build medical clinics.

He came back and it has been just one event after another. It's been fun.

School's out tomorrow for the students and most of them head back to their passport country or some of them are moving back. The summer slows way down for us. We've taken the last three days to hang out in town. We found an English Library and the kids loved it!

My job for the summer is to get the house organized and finish decorating the kids' room.

Josiah starts kindergarten on Monday and he's very excited. I think he's getting to the age where mommy isn't as much fun as before. He's ready to meet new friends, but knows they only speak German. I'm told there is one English speaking boy in his class. His teachers can speak English as well but the whole point of him being in kindergarten is to learn the language.

Kindergartens here are not academic but more of a day care type setting. They said they like to train the body before they train the mind. They do a lot of play. They have a room for dancing and jumping on big mats. He'll love it.

Grocery stores aren't as hard as I imagined. There is a store here that used to be a walmart-it has everything you need. However, they have a different way of organizing where they put things. And certain things are super expensive. Poptarts are about 6 euro (probably $9). Popcorn and maple syrup are expensive too.

We go to Frankfurt in a couple weeks for a friends wedding and we are excited to see another part of the country. It's only two hours away but they call it another region of the country.

Our shipment arrives in a week!! Yay!

Wir haben es nach Deutschland (We made it to Germany)!

It's been crazy trying to get the kids on the right schedule and time zone.
We went on several trips to grocery stores, trying to find food for the kiddos. We were quite successful!
Today we went to a park that is close to the house. It was beautiful and the kids had a great time. I'm sure we will make frequent trips there.

Sophia 15 months

She's still our little peanut! I love this last picture. She was trying to smile for the camera and the flash made her blink.

She hasn't had her 15 month well child check yet. She was sick earlier and she couldn't get her shots. I'm guessing she's 20 lbs. maybe a little more.

She's talking all the time and she loves tackling her big brother. She'll let you know when she's mad. She's pretty hilarious and loves to make her daddy laugh.

Christmas Performance

He did such a great job and then it came time for the colored fabric ( couldn't think of what to call it). He asked for green and they gave him a different color and he started to cry. It was the saddest face and I wanted to go grab him. They ran back and gave him green, but he was still sad. Poor kid. It was good for him to learn that he can't have what he wants all the time. I felt bad for taking pictures of him being sad though.

Josiah had a Toy Story birthday party. Unfortunately, I can't find pictures of him opening presents and playing. He had his 4 year check up and all is good. He's 50% in height and weight. We are working on eating more veggies and new things. He doesn't like to try new things, so it's been a battle.

He loves trains, puzzles, books. He loves movies, computer games and making his own books.

He likes to tell me a story and have me write it down. Then we staple it together and he draws the pictures. He's pretty imaginative.

Here are a couple of pictures of Dusseldorf, Germany. The plan is to move there by the end of March- as long as all our funds have come in.

We just went for a visit to check out the city and see if our family could live there. It's a great city and our children will do GREAT. It's very safe and very international.

We met people who work with YouthCompass and they are all so great. We met some of the kids we'll be working with and even got to check out the international school where most of the kids go. It was very exciting and the house they have for us is perfect.

So now that we are back, we have to dive into fundraising. We need to raise about $2300 a month and the board in Dusseldorf raises the rest of the needed amount. We've been meeting with people to see if they'd like to be part of our team. SO, right now we could use all your prayers as we try to make our goal by March!!

They want us there by March so Nick can participate in project compassion. It's a service project the kids go on every year. They are going to Albania to build medical clinics in a small village. It'd be a perfect time for Nick to start building relationships with the students.

Pray for us as we are fundraising! We are also looking for opportunities to talk with groups of people-small groups or friends of yours we may not know.

Here are the kiddos on Halloween. Josiah had quite a day being Buzz Lightyear! Sophia didn't care much-but I wouldn't either if I couldn't have any candy!

Sophia's 12 month Stats:

16.6 lbs 27 3/4 in. She's 1%

Our doctor went ahead and did a urine sample to check her thyroid-I haven't heard anything yet (no news is good news right?). He said there is really no concern because she's so proportionate. She's just a petite little girl. He said to feed her well and we'll check her in two months.

Sophia had her 1st birthday party this weekend! Tuesday is her real birthday and also her 12 month well child appointment. Excited to see all her stats-I know she's only about 17 lbs. She such a little peanut!

Weekend in Salem

We headed down to Salem, OR to visit some family. It was great to see everyone-it had been too long!! My cousin just had a beautiful baby daughter, Evelyn Louise. I'm so glad we were able to see the baby-she was 11 days early.

Josiah played with his cousin Adam. They are close in age and they play so well with each other. They played super hero's the entire time! Josiah is still talking about being batman!

Sophia will be one year on the 26th! I can hardly believe it! I guess I should start figuring out her birthday but we've just been so busy.

We'll be leaving for London and Germany in one month. We are very excited but I need to get new clothes. We have family pictures this month-no idea what to wear for that either!

Nick's been meeting with families to raise support and also helping at YoungLife! I have a feeling it's going to be nonstop until we move to Germany. Such is life and we are so excited for this opportunity! It's great to have finally found a vocational ministry that is truly missional!

We went to Lynden, Washington this weekend to visit some family we have up there. We all had a blast! Sophia loves her cousins Alexandra and Olivia. Alexandra and Sophia were attached at the hip for three days-it was very cute!

Josiah loved Alexandra's playroom and big swingset outside. He even got to play with his big cousin Nicholas. I wish I would have taken more pictures!

It was a great weekend to visit with family we haven't seen in awhile. We hope to get up there more often!

The little peanut is 10 months old today! She had her last check up at 9 months-she was 10% across the board. 15 lb. 13 oz. 25 3/4 in. She's definitely a peanut.

She loves to climb and walk along the furniture. She loves to play pattycake and she loves bananas!

She has two bottom teeth and this week she's been working on the top two-not fun!

Since I just gave an update on Sophia, I figured I should do the same for Josiah.

He's quite the big brother. He's done a great job with Sophia and I couldn't be more thankful.

Sophia at 6 months

Sophia turned 6 months on April 26th. Time has gone by so fast and I feel like I can't keep up. I guess that is obvious by my horrible blog updating-I'm working on it!

She's growing but is definitely a petite little girl. We like to call her "Peanut." She's rolling all over and is learning to sit up on her own. She started baby food and she loves carrots and she's not sure about green beans.

She weighs 12 lbs 11 oz and is 24 3/4 in.

This last week has been great. We are starting see her own personality come through. She blows bubbles all the time, she loves to copy daddy, and has full on belly laughs when Josiah giggles. It's so cute!

She wasn't too sure about trying something new. She's definitely got the hang of it now. She wasn't and still isn't a fan of rice cereal. If I mix it with a vegetable she'll eat it no problem. Josiah loved his rice cereal. It's funny to see the difference between them.

She's had all the vegetables and a few meats. She gags on the meats so now we are starting fruits. She LOVES her bananas!

Sophia is almost four months old and she's been making lots of baby noises and giggles. She's been trying to eat anything that she grabs. It's been crazy to see how fast she is growing-only two months and she'll be starting solids!

Josiah had a great time tubing with Daddy at Mt. Bachelor. It was foggy and I couldn't even see the top of the hill. He only went a couple times because it was so cold! Maybe next year will be better weather and he can try skiing.

Here's some pictures of Josiah at the Family Expo. This was an event in the Tricities to learn more about what programs and schools are in our area. Josiah had a blast in the bouncy houses and in the tumbling area. I think we are going to start going to open gym tumbling so he can get some energy out. I also found out that the YMCA sports start at age 3. I was assuming it was 5 but they changed it this year. He just missed indoor soccer but we are going to sign him up for some Tball this spring! Hopefully he'll like it.

Sophia has been growing a lot lately. She hasn't been to the doctor in a month. I'm guessing she's about 10lb 5oz and 23 in. She'll be three months on the 26th of January. She's been smiling all the time, especially when Josiah is talking to her.

The pictures of Josiah are of him at the Children's museum for a "Happy Noon Year" party. Since the kids are in bed by midnight they decided to throw a party for them at Noon. It was pretty cute actually. They made noisemakers and had a countdown. Only problem was it was so crowded. The tricities really only has one thing for kids and so it seemed like every kid in the tricities was there. Not good. Josiah had fun though.

Josiah had his first Tiny Tots Christmas performance at Church. He was the youngest one in the group but maybe the most serious about his singing and gestures.

He had been practicing for weeks before the performance and it was so much fun to here him sing. He did a great job and was the only one to bow after each song-it was funny!

Opening gifts was so exciting for the little guy

It should be exciting for Christmas this year as he opened all the birthday presents on his own. Last year at Christmas he still didn't really get the concept of gift opening. His party went great and he had about 6 or so friends show up. We've been busy opening all the new toys and putting away old toys. Thanks everyone who was part of his special day-he had a great time!

He had his three year well child appointment. He weighs 32 lbs. and is 40 in. tall. He was in the 60th percentile if anyone wants to know. Quite a difference as Sophia is in the 4th and 7th percentile.

Yesterday we went to Walmart to get a few things and saw that Santa was there for free picture taking. It worked out perfectly because we were dressed for pictures taken earlier in the day. Josiah was excited to see Santa. I think this year will be the best so far with him and Christmas-he's so excited for christmas trees and lights and presents. Hopefully he can handle the whole month we have to wait!

Sydney surprised Josiah with a birthday party since she won't be able to make it to his actual party. Very sweet of the Drew Coleman Clan! They had cupcakes and wore crazy sunglasses (I forgot to get a pic of that) and played with party horns! Sydney gave Josiah a great Tool set that he absolutely loves and is very fitting for his Handy Manny birthday theme. Thanks guys for being so thoughtful!

We celebrated Thanksgiving with both sides of our family. Josiah had a great time playing with all his cousins. Sophia got to meet Sydney, Elijah and Aunt Ninny for the first time. We had a great time with family and wish we could see them more often!

Sometimes Josiah will wake up at night scared so we will go and hold him for a bit, say a prayer and tell him Jesus is with him and will protect him.
The other day he thought I was sad or scared about something, so he tells me, "Mommy, Jesus is with you."
Cute and nice to know that he actually listens to us!

We were asking Josiah about Christmas and what it was all about. He somewhat remembered from last year and so we refreshed his memory. Afterwards, he said, "What about Santa?" We pretty much told him Santa wasn't real and he said, "No. Santa helps Jesus." I told him Jesus doesn't need any help but he didn't really get it....kinda hard for a three year old to understand.

Sophia is growing well and is awake a lot more lately. It's fun to watch her look around and she especially likes to watch Josiah-very cute! She weighed 7lb 5 oz on thursday so she is gaining everyday. We will go this wednesday for her one month well child appointment. It seems wierd to be going through this process again, it didn't seem too long ago I was doing this with Josiah. Now he'll be three on Dec. 5!! He'll be having a Handy Manny birthday.

He's grown up so fast it is scary. He is quite the little boy and we have so much fun with him. His new phrase is, "oh nevermind" or "this is what I'm thinking..." You never know what is going to come out of his mouth! Lately he's been screaming/singing Jingle Bells and The B-I-B-L-E song. He loves his little sister and is a little protective. If I'm not holding her and he doesn't see her, he'll go searching, saying "Mommy where's Sophia?!?"

He's quite the thinker and has set in his mind the way things need to be, which can make things frustrating for him. We have many battles over the way things should be vs. the way he wants them to be. He loves numbers and shapes and music.

We are so blessed to have him in our lives and we have loved watching him grow up into a big boy!

Here are some more pictures! I love this last picture...Josiah wanted to lay down with Sophia so bad and he stayed there for quite awhile.

Everything is still going well with Sophia. I've been adjusting pretty good with the late night feedings. She usually eats every 3 to 4 hours at night. Today she's been eating less but a lot more often. She has a hard time burping which brings her spitting up pretty frequently, so eating less amounts at a time helps with that. I remember Josiah has gas issues too and we were so thankful for Mylicon! She's gaining weight very well so nothing to worry about.

Sleeping Sophia

Here's some baby pictures!! When I have more time I will post some more. Sophia Lind Coleman was born on October 26 at 8:17 am. She weighed 6lb 5oz and was 18 in. long. She is a little peanut!

Josiah has loved getting to know his little sister. He loves to take pictures of her and sing her songs. It's very sweet to see him love her so much. Yesterday Sophia was moving around and she touched Josiah's face and he said, "she likes me!"

Nick and I are doing well adjusting to the new little girl. She is not a fusser at all which is great! She pretty much eats and sleeps so far which is normal for a newborn. The c-section went great but it is hard when you have a two year old running around. He wants me to hold him all the time, but I can't carry him. Sometimes I feel awful that I can't do that for him. A couple more weeks and I'll be back to normal.

We are having a lot of fun with Sophia! Thanks for all the congratulations and prayers.

Last pregnancy update!

I had my last OB appointment yesterday, which I am very happy about. I never enjoy them too much. Anyway...Tuesday night I was having a lot of braxton hicks contractions which started coming more regular and I got a little worried. Thankfully they went away and the doctor checked me and said everything was fine and I shouldn't go into labor before Monday. He did say the baby is not breech..finally. Although it doesn't matter because we'll be having a c-section.
I also had to head to the hospital to fill out all the necessary paperwork and get my bloodwork done.
One thing I'm bummed about is that having a c-section I don't get to hold the baby first or see Josiah's reaction to his sibling. I've told Nick that he has to wait to let Josiah hold the baby when I'm in the room and no one gets to hold the baby before me, besides Nick of course. Sorry family, but I hardly get to even see the baby before they take her away.

We went to the pumpkin patch twice this weekend. Saturday we headed out only to find out it was $11 a person (kids were free). A little too much I thought, but the next day was only $6 a person. So we headed out again on Sunday and Josiah had a blast! He saw zebras, wallaroos, and got to ride an animal train. There was a HUGE blow up slide there and I figured he would be too scared to go, because he's been so timid lately. He went straight up the stairs by himself and slid down and yelled, "Wahoo!" It was a lot of fun to see him so happy! It was a great time especially with the new baby coming. We are trying to do as much with him as we can before baby shock sets in. Only one week!

In just 21 days we'll have our new little one and I can hardly believe it! I feel like time has gone by slow until now when we have all this stuff that needs to be done. Finishing painting the room is the number task that should be accomplished by this weekend! Unfortunately the color on the wall is so dark and the new color is so super light that Nick is having to prime the walls twice. It's gonna take a lot of work to get it finished...thankfully it's a small room.
Today I got the bassinet all ready with everything I'll need in our room when the baby comes home. I also put a lot of clothes away and was going to wash the bedding and other clothes, but I realized I don't have any baby detergent. I feel like we've been going to Walmart or Target everyday for something to do with the baby and I always forget something-thanks prego brain!
Thanks Nick for the new hand vacuum- I love it! I was able to get the blinds cleaned and the stairs. I can't believe how much Jake sheds and I don't want my new baby breathing in all his hairyness....I'm tempted to have him adopted for 3 months.
Josiah is seeming to be more excited about the baby coming. He's been helping me in the baby's room, putting away clothes and of course pulling out all the little toys. We talked about the hospital and how mommy has to be there for about three days. I told him he could sit in the hospital bed with me and watch movies-he picked leap frog and nemo movies. Sounds exciting! It's been fun talking with him about the new baby...now we can't wait to meet her!

Josiah is reading just like daddy and in the same position. Josiah chose to read a thesaurus which I'm sure was fun. I thought this was cute and had to share.

Funny story from last week. I took Josiah to get his flu shot at the doctor, which he didn't like at all. They quickly gave him a cookie and he was perfectly fine and asked for more. The doctor's wife, Mrs. Krause, made Josiah an animal balloon. Josiah loved it and couldn't believe all the treats he got for getting a shot. So later in the day I decided to take Jake (the dog) to get his shots. I told Josiah he'd have to help Jake be brave and so he went over to Jake and said, "Jake, it's okay. You get cookies and a blue balloon." I thought that was pretty funny and cute at the same time.

Baby update. I had an appointment last week and everything looks good and I'm going in for weekly appointments now. Still looks like the baby is transverse...so good thing I'm already having a c-section. I've been having pain from the chostochondritis I have, but the doctor says there isn't much I can do and that the added heartburn I'm having could be making it worse. He says it should all go away once the baby is born and if not I'll need to get on anti inflammatory medication. The last couple days have been good so I am thankful for that! Sleeping has been an issue lately but I only have three weeks left and I assume it's God's way of getting me ready for the everything three hour feedings when the baby arrives.

We are excited for baby #2 and are still trying to finalize a name and get the baby room done. We had the name picked but then I see other names and get so confused. We have 4 we are playing around with...hopefully we'll be able to figure it out when she's born.

Pumpkins with Papa

Josiah and I went to the farmer's market with my parents (grandma and papa). There were some small pumpkins for sale so Papa gave Josiah two dollars to pick out a pumpkin (see the money in his hands). Who knew picking out a pumpkin would be such a serious task. He finally picked his pumpkin and gave the lady the money, one dollar at a time. Thanks Papa for the pumpkin!

Baby Shower

My best friend Danielle threw a baby shower for the little girl coming soon. I had a great time and it was fun seeing friends I hadn't seen in awhile. Thanks Danielle for all you did to put the shower together- you're the greatest!

I feel like I am getting more prepared for the little girl coming, but we have yet to get the room ready. We only have 3 1/2 weeks left! Nick has to finish painting and then it's just a matter of washing bedding and clothes. We can't wait!

Good news about Lisa

The past couple updates on Lisa have been positive.
She breathes every third breath on her own and she's digesting on her own.
The nurses have seen her open her eyes. Rick, her husband, asked her to open her eyes and she did. This is such great news!

I don't think I updated on this but it looks like she did have some brain damage but the doctors don't know to what extent. They won't know until she wakes up. She still has a fever of 102 but they have her on antibiotics for that.

Please keep praying for her. These latest updates have given great hope to her family and friends. We hope it continues to be positive news.

The Boys

Josiah watched this show called "Pinky Doo" once and in the show they go into a story box and she makes up a story. So Josiah decided to make his own story box. It was pretty funny when he asked me to sit in there with him. He does a good job of making up stories though. I guess Elmo was the only friend who could fit inside the box.

This has been a frequent sight of mine. Since Nick has had diverticulitis he's been very tired and in pain and so he needs to rest a lot. Josiah loves to be with his daddy and knows he has to be gentle around daddy when he's having problems. So Josiah will usually just chill out with Nick on the love sac (that's the chair their sitting on and yes that's the real name if you hadn't heard of it). I think it's pretty cute to see them relaxing, usually watching Jeopardy together.

C-section Scheduled

I went to my OB today for a checkup. I am 31 weeks along, the heartbeat sounds great and the baby is in the transverse position. And unexpectedly the doctor scheduled my c-section.
This time I'll be delivering at Lourdes Hospital and it will be on October 26th at 7:30 am. I thought he was gonna wait 5 more weeks to schedule with the hospital but he said we might as well do it now. So that is the date the baby will be due unless of course my OB notices any changes in my cervix. If that happens he'll schedule sooner because they don't want me to go into labor.
So things are moving a long and it's nice to have a date set. Can't wait to meet the little one!

My Silly Boy

-Josiah has been quite silly lately with some of the things he comes up with. Last night he came out of his room just thirty minutes after I put him down for bedtime and he says to me, "I've slept all day." He even said it in a fitting tone.
-We've been watching Frosty the Snowman (unfortunately for me) and soon after he'll check the window to see if it's snowing. A couple days ago, when it was hot and sunny, he said, "Mommy it's snowing for three days."
-Josiah has a blue stool that helps him get up in his bed. He's been using it as a stage to perform on. He says to us, "Let's sing songs...turn off the TV." So then he sings a song which is usually some made up song. The other day it was him singing the words to some books he has memorized. After he's done he tells us to say, "Yay, " so we do and then he takes a bow. I have no idea where he learned the bow but it's pretty funny. I have a video of it but haven't figure out how to get it on the computer yet. I'll have to get Nick to put it on here for me.
-One of the times he was on his stool he couldn't think of which song to sing. I said to him, "How about twinkle little star." He says to me, "What a great idea Mommy."
-This last week of using the potty has been great. #2 is coming along but we still have accidents. After he has an accident I usually ask him where the poopoo is supposed to go and he'll tell me the potty. Then he'll say, "I sorry." One time this week I forgot to say, "it's okay," so he looks at me sad and says, "mommy, you say it's okay." Kinda funny...he needed the reassurance. He's such a little sweetie.
Those are just a few silly stories from the boy this last week.

Update on Lisa

Since a lot of my family knows Lisa Caynor I will keep posting updates for you to see.

Another CT scan corroborated the scan taken in Huahin – there is no intracranial bleeding, but there is brain swelling. Lisa is in ICU in stable but critical condition in an induced coma for hypothermal therapy in order to maintain a slow body state and cool her body temperature for the brain swelling to subside. Dr. Yot inserted a pressure monitor into Lisa’s skull to confirm the high pressure and to monitor it. She is receiving medication to reduce the brain swelling. She did not suffer any other external or internal injuries that the doctors are aware of at this time. Dr. Yot plans to keep her in the induced coma for at least five days and projects the brain swelling will peak 36 to 48 hours after the injury. She is entering that window of time right now. Her vital signs continue to be good.
Kristen and Ricky remain at the hospital in Petchaburi a couple hours outside of Bangkok to receive treatment for their injuries. Kristen is suffering a lot of pain in her lower back and pelvis. Rick and the kids look forward to being reunited again this weekend as soon as the kids are discharged from the hospital and can go to Bangkok.
After seeing the car, which was wrapped around a pole, they couldn't believe anyone came out alive. A big praise was having a fellow missionary, whom we met when we were in Thailand, come home from furlow just a day before the accident. He is a medical doctor and will be able to oversee what's going on. Lisa is at a very high tech, respected hospital in Bangkok so she is in good hands.

Lisa Caynor whom I've grown up with was in a serious car accident in Thailand. Her and her two kids were in the car and swerved to miss a motorcycle and ran off the road. She is unconscious and was put into an induced coma. The two kids are fine but have some broken bones.
They have drilled a hole in her head to relieve some pressure and have ruled out any spinal injuries.
This family is very dear to us and we are praying that she will be okay. Please pray for her!

We went to the fair this year with our friends the Blackards. Josiah and Brayden always have a great time together. Josiah liked everything but wouldn't go on any rides, but that was okay because the prices were outrageous -$3 a ride. We played some games so he could win a couple stuffed animals. He loved the duck game-you pick a duck and it has a S,M, L, or XL on the bottom to decide which size of toy you win. Josiah picked a S and so Nick flipped a whole bunch over and they were all S's-go figure. We had a great time and I was so glad the weather was perfect!!

So all of us have been sick at some point this month. First it was Josiah but it only lasted about two days. Then Nick got sick and we ended up cancelling our trip to beach. Then I get sick which is no surprise with my horrible immune system. For the past month and a half I've been coughing and have been a little congested. I didn't think much because congestion can be a part of pregnancy. Anyway...I thought I was getting over it until after Nick was sick and it came even worse then before. Monday was a bad day of not being able to eat because I was coughing so hard that I would gag (sorry for this). I called my doctor and he ordered me a perscription of antibiotics since I haven't been able to get over it in a month. I've been feeling much better and can't wait to stop coughing.

In the midst of all this we are still working with Josiah to be FULLY potty trained on his own. We have plenty of accident free days but need to work on #2 and getting him to tell us when we are out of the house. Today he actually did great at Walmart and told us he had to go potty. It was bad timing and I asked him if he could hold it until we got home and he said yes and he actually did. So great job buddy! I was scared with being sick and not working on potty training that he would regress but thankfully that didn't happen. It's been quite the process with a strong willed child but I know he won't be going #2 in his pants in kindergarten so whatever.

Today I had a check up with my OB doctor and everything is going great. Time is flying by and in just seven weeks we'll be scheduling the c-section...unless I go into labor before then, which is very unlikely.

I am looking forward to this weekend because we will be heading to the beach where it's cooler and can have some quality family time together.

I am in my 26th week of pregnancy and had a check up today with my doctor. Everything is going well and the heartbeat sounds great. My next appointment is in three weeks instead of four and then from there they will be every two weeks. I can't believe it's already to that point. I remember when I was pregnant with Josiah and my appointments started getting closer together and I remember how fast the time went after that. I am not a super patient person especially with this situation. I keep telling myself that I have a lot to get done before the baby comes...finish the baby room, finish Josiah's pottytraining (which is getting better but has been quite the process). The last two days have been great potty days for Josiah but I still want him to be able to tell me when he has to go more. It's a process and I figure he'll get it down soon.

Nick and I have been spending this week trying to get Josiah into his new room. Nick's done a great job of putting his bed together and organizing all the junk we had in the guest room.
I have been going through Josiah's room trying to find all his baby stuff that I can use for the new baby (monitors, bathing stuff, towels, burp rags, etc.). I also found a couple sleepers that could be worn by a girl although that hasn't stopped me from shopping =0).
The crib bedding I got for Josiah was gender neutral so I'm gonna just use that one again. Throughout this process Josiah has been going through the boxes with me and thinks it is all for him again and just can't stop his excitement.

Since Nick had finished putting Josiah's bed together I figured I'd try and seeif he'd go down for his nap in it. After forty-five minutes of having me get up and get him whichever animal he wanted he finally fell asleep with his penguin.
It seems unreal that it will no longer be the three of us in four months. I think we are going to take a vacation just the three of us before it gets crazy around here.

Yesterday was quite the day and he definitely needed a nap. Josiah usually takes a nap very easily-I can put him in the bed and he'll fall asleep on his own. Yesterday this was not the case, I spent an hour trying to get him to nap at my parent's house. I went into the room and said, "You really need to go to sleep right now!" and he says to me, "Mommy!! YOU go to sleep!" I couldn't believe what I heard and I felt like I had a teenager instead of a two and a half year old. We ended up taking him out and he eventually took a nap at 5 pm....go figure!
Then today I told him to come upstairs with me. I got up the stairs and he was sitting on the bottom stair. I said, "Josiah hurry up and come up the stairs." After about three minutes of him just sitting there I said, "I am NOT happy." He says to me, "I happy!"
It's in these moments where I have to hold back the laughter. Sometimes I can't believe he said it and especially in the tone which he does.

Popsicles

Or as Josiah likes to call them, "Popsicables." Yesterday we got some molds to make our own popsicles. I figured this would be another way for Josiah to get fruit and veggies. We already make him smoothies once a day that have lots of fruit and carrots in them. Now I can pour it into the mold and he can enjoy them that way.
Today he ate his first popsicle and absolutely loved it! We made strawberry and pineapple or "pinecone" ones. I don't know why Josiah calls it that but it's cute.
The boys had fun eating their popsicles and I had to take a couple pictures because it was just too cute!

A little Peeved...

Looks like we won't be having that second ultrasound afterall. My doctor said he got all the information he needed and that the ultrasound can be done anytime between 16 and 20 weeks (which is what I thought too).
I'm a little peeved at the ultrasound tech who decided on her own that because I was 17 weeks instead of 19 I would have to come back again. It was frustrating because after she discovered the age and she did the measurements she rushed through everything else giving us one crap picture saying, "You'll be back in two weeks and you'll get more pictures." She did try and find the sex of the baby which she concluded was a girl because of the lines. I feel a little cheated out of the only ultrasound I'll have.
So whatever. But if you're not a doctor don't act like one. Just needed to let that out.

Pregnancy updates

I tried to get the best picture of my belly but I was by myself. This is my belly at 5 months-looks bigger in the picture than I feel.

This pregnancy has been much different than the last. With Josiah I had zero problems or sickness. With this pregnancy I had quite a bit of morning sickness, but thankfully that is over. Last week I was on antibiotics for a bladder infection and now this week I had to go to urgent care again. I thought I was having a heart attack because I was having intense pain in my chest and it wasn't going away. Finally it passed and I called by OB who said to go the urgent care and get checked out as he thought it didn't have to do with the baby. So I went reluctantly because I knew it wasn't my heart-I've never had any heart problems and it just didn't make sense. The doctor ran some tests and said I had a perfect heart and that she felt swelling around my sternum. She said I have costochondritis which is swelling of the cartilage that attaches the sternum to the ribs. So it's not a big deal, but it was painful. They can't give me anything because I'm pregnant. They told me to take tylonel if there is a flare up again.

So it's been quite different with this pregnancy. But it's all well worth it in the end.

I'm super excited to be having a girl. Yesterday I bought a newborn shirt that has frilly sleeves and is super cute. I only bought one...I'm waiting for our next ultrasound to be sure that it's a girl.

Looks like we're having a girl according to the ultrasound we had today. We found out I'm two weeks earlier than we thought so I'll have to go in for another ultrasound in a couple weeks. The ultrasound tech said she thought it was a girl and said there were signs showing that. Nick and I both thought it was a girl based on comparing Josiah's ultrasounds which was so obvious.
In two weeks we will know more and will get more pictures. Although they never really tell you it's definitely a boy or girl. Even on Josiah's they said, "It's PROBABLY a boy." Anyway, we are excited and will let you know what happens in a couple weeks....who knows it could be a boy.

Happy Anniversary Nicholas

On May 21st Nick and I celebrated our four year wedding anniversary. Seems like it has gone by fast especially because Josiah's two and half.
It's always fun to remember back to the wedding day and what you were doing at each point of the day. I remembered waking up thinking, "this is when I'd be getting my hair done." And at one o'clock is when we said "I do."
We always go somewhere for our anniversary. This year we went to Seattle for a night and went to a mariner's game. It was a lot of fun and Nick had some hotel points from his travels so we got to stay in a nice place with a view of the water in downtown Seattle.
Thanks Nick for four great years. You are a wonderful husband and I'm so thankful God brought us together. I love you and am so glad I married my best friend.

Mother's Day!

This mother's day was especially fun. I think because last year Josiah couldn't really say "Mother's Day." This year he ran up to me with a card that he and daddy had made for me. He was saying, "Happy Mother's Day" over and over again. It was really sweet!
Nick and Josiah took me out to breakfast and then we went for a two hour walk in the park. Josiah especially loved throwing rocks in the water. It was such a nice day outside. I wish I would've taken my camera. Nick and Josiah were both wearing hats and it was so cute when they were throwing rocks...next time.
Our small group meets on Sunday nights and all the husbands sent their wives to get manicures and pedicures while they babysat the boys (maybe we'll add a baby girl to this group). That was a great treat for us!! Thanks Nick for the nail treatments and for the maternity clothes you bought me, much needed as I'm starting to pop out. You're the greatest husband!

Weekend in Salem

This last weekend was my Cousin's college graduation and my Grandma's 78th birthday. Josiah had a great time seeing everyone. We stayed at Aunt Ninny's house which was a lot of fun. Every morning Josiah would wake up calling for Ninny-pretty cute! I wish I would've got a picture of Josiah with Ninny, but I didn't so I'll have to do it next time.
On Thursday we took Josiah to the riverfront carousel which I thought he'd love. He went on it with Nick when he was little and he didn't mind it then. He picked out his horse and sat on it, but it was taking forever for the carousel to start and so he was getting a little frustrated. Then the man running the carousel said we weren't on a horse that went up and down so we switched horses and after that he started crying and we had to sit in the covered wagon. We did get a picture of us on the first horse he picked. After the ride was over Josiah was out of there super fast. We went to the playground and he played for quite awhile, making a lot of friends as usual. It was his very last time down the slide and a bee was on his hand. I was about to hit the bee away and then Josiah closed his fist and the bee stung him. My mom quickly pulled the stinger out and killed the bee! That stupid bee, I was so angry! Josiah recovered well and didn't have much of a reaction to the sting. He showed everyone his bee sting and would tell them, "Bad bug!"
Friday we were able to head towards Woodburn to a flower farm. Every year we get my Grandma a hanging basket for her birthday. There were many animals and Josiah got to feed some goats and sit on a couple tractors. They had an International Harvester Tractor which my Grandpa collects so we had to get a picture of Josiah on the IH tractor (that one is for you Grandpa!).
Unfortunately cousin Adam was not feeling well so the boys weren't able to play together. Josiah hasn't seen Adam since September. Hopefully we will be able to get them together soon. Hope your feeling better Adam!
Saturday we celebrated Carissa's graduation and my Grandma's birthday. Josiah got to help Great Grandma blow out the candles. Josiah had a great time with Grandma, he would follow her all around the house. It was pretty cute.
We had a great weekend. Josiah is still talking about everything he did. Yesterday at Starbucks he went around to random people showing them his bee sting, it was pretty funny. He doesn't have a shy bone in his body.

Zebras and Wallaroos

This weekend we went searching for flowers and plants to replace the horrible weed-like bushes and rose bushes. We went to a couple of the nurserys around town and we came to one that didn't have much flowers but had some fun animals. My friend had written a blog about a zebra and wallaroo being at a nursery in town but I couldn't remember where it was. I am so glad we came across it because Josiah is still talking about the zebra and wallaroo. Josiah got to pet the zebra but the wallaroo was a little shy. It was pretty funny to see a zebra wandering around the nursery wearing a pink harness.
At the nursery they had kits to plant vegetables made by VeggieTales. Josiah really wanted to buy a Larry and Bob, but we don't have an area to plant vegetables yet. I want to have a vegetable garden sometime. Josiah knows all his veggies but won't eat them on his own (I have to hide them). I had cut up a cucumber the other day and he said, "That's Larry." I was pretty surprised he knew that after it was cut up. Some day we will buy him some vegetable seeds so he can make his own Bob and Larry.
Another fun thing we did this weekend was flying a kite. We bought Josiah a frog kite and waited for some wind. Saturday was a little breazy so we headed to the neighborhood park and flew the kite. Josiah loved it! "Froggy in the sky" he would say. We had a fun weekend!

Weekend with Cousins

This last weekend we went to Portland for our nephew Elijah's dedication. It was great to see Drew, Marisa, Sydney and Elijah. Elijah is one of the sweetest babies I've been around and he's got the cutest dimples ever!
Josiah was soooo excited to see Sydney and all he talked about the week before was "Sydney's House!" They had a lot of fun together. Josiah didn't have a nap for three days so unfortunately there was a lot of fits and saying "play nice" every 5 seconds.
Nick and I took Josiah and Sydney to the zoo because Josiah had never been before and because we live in a city that has nothing for children. Josiah loved seeing the Elephants and penguins and Sydney loved the polar bears. Part of the park was under construction so Josiah didn't get to see the lions or giraffes which he would've loved. I'm sure we'll go again so he can see them. We ended up getting the kiddos these elephants glasses that they wore all the way home.
The cousins had a great time together and we can't wait to get down there again.

Coloring Easter Eggs

I grew up coloring easter eggs every Easter and so I thought it'd be fun for Josiah to do the same. He had a lot of fun and was pretty amazed at what happened to the white egg. It's always fun to see him thinking, trying to figure things out.
His favorite part was putting stickers on the eggs and drawing on the eggs before we dyed them-of course I don't have a picture of that...oh well.
Unfortunately it was raining on Easter so Josiah had to do his hunt inside the house and he had a great time finding the eggs. Thanks to Grandma who had eggs to hide which were filled with teddy grahams.
Can't wait for next Easter-Josiah will be a little over 3 years old and we'll have a little baby.

Easter Egg Hunt

Our small group put on an easter egg hunt for 150 people this weekend. It was a lot of fun to see all the kids and Josiah definitely enjoyed himself- well...for the first hour anyway. He was pretty tired after the easter egg hunt and the bounce house. It was great, well, except for the weather- it was super windy!!
Josiah got to color his own bag for the easter egg hunt. He wasn't very into the hunting part but he did find three eggs. He had found this stick at the beginning of the day and was more worried about losing his stick then hunting for eggs.
The bounce house was great when the little kids got a turn. Josiah and cousin Evan got to go inside together. Granddad was kind enough to get inside and help them up to the slide. He did this about 4 times and then he was ready for lunch and a nap time. Thanks to Grannie and Granddad Coleman for watching Josiah so Nick and I could continue to help the event.
The event turned out great and some of the kids said it was the best easter they ever had. Maybe next year Josiah will be more interested in the egg hunt and hopefully the weather will be much better.

"Outside Outside!"

This whole week has been sunny and beautiful outside. We've been outside almost everyday and Josiah is always asking to go "Outside!!" When we go outside he wants Nemo to come too. We bought Nemo at Walmart for less than $10 and he blows bubbles, which Josiah greatly enjoys and scares Jake. Although today Jake started to chase the bubbles and eat them-Josiah thought this was great!
A couple days ago, after I worked in the yard for two hours- which I'm never doing again pregnant. I didn't think it'd effect me, but it did and I am still sore. Stupid lawnmower! I was trying to suprise Nick. Anyway. After the yard was done and Nick got home from work, I had him bring down Josiah's huge slide climbing toy outside. Josiah loves having the "castle" outside and so do I because now I have more room in my family room.
It was fun letting him run around our backyard. He would stay outside all day if he could and he definitely lets me know when I take him inside-it's quite a battle.
I loved taking these pictures of him today because he was so willing to smile. Josiah will normally say "Cheese" and then run away. You can definitely tell he was enjoying himself

Three years ago...

Three years ago today, Nick and I were on our way home from Thailand. Little did we know the next day we would find out we were pregnant with Josiah. Time has definitely flown by especially now that we are pregnant with our second child.
Seeing Josiah's newborn pictures makes me even more excited for the next baby. I can't wait for October. Although, there are a lot of things I need to do before this baby comes. Finish potty training, get Josiah's big boy bed and move his stuff into the other bedroom. I just took his binky away (yes I know he's over 2 and doesn't need it). I was dreading it because I knew it'd be a horrible experience, but he actually didn't even seem to care.
I was looking for a more recent picture of Josiah to add to this post, but I couldn't find a super recent one. Our camera has needed batteries for a couple months so I need to get on that and then I can hopefully get some recent pictures on this blog for you all to see.
This bottom picture is one of the day Josiah was born. I was scheduled to have a c-section since Josiah was upside down. I am looking forward to see more newborn pictures in October.

Cute Stories

Josiah's vocabulary has been growing like crazy this last week. He's talking in sentences that I can understand now.
The other day he used the word "different." He was eating fortune cookies and he wanted another one so he says, "Mommy, different cookie?" Pretty funny especially because we didn't know he even knew the word.
About a week ago he was in the car with my mom and says, "Grandma, what's your name?" Exactly like that! You never know what he's gonna say and he'll copy anything you say.
Unfortunately I say "Oh gosh" sometimes. So lately, if Josiah is surprised by something or sees something cool he says, "oh gosh." He says it exactly the same as I do...same tone and everything. Not that it's horrible to say but I don't want my kid saying it in the nursery or whatever. Now we say, "Oh wow!" or "Oh no!"
Anyway...those are a couple of new stories.

Great News!

We recently found out we are expecting our second child. As of right now the due date is October 21st. Although the doctor said it'd be earlier because of the c-section. I guess he doesn't want the chance of me going into labor and then having to go into surgery.
We are super excited! It'll be nice for Josiah to have a sibling. He knows the baby is in mommy's tummy but doesn't really comprehend it. I think once I start to show he'll begin to understand.
Can't wait for October!

Allergy Tests

Poor Josiah was tested for nut allergies last week and we got the results today. He is allergic to pistachios and cashews and he's fine with any other nut. I thought it was interesting that he was only allergic to those two...I am thankful it is only two and that one of them wasn't peanuts. Peanuts are practically in everything so I am glad Josiah doesn't have to deal with that.
Now it is just a matter of watching what people give him to eat at the nursery or playdates and reading labels.

Potty Progress

For the last two days Josiah hasn't had any accidents. He still wears a diaper a nap time and bedtime, but wore the same pull up for a whole day. Just thought I'd share the progess. I am really happy about this and hope it continues.

Sweet Kid

Josiah has been especially sweet lately. I would like to say he is sweet all the time, but being a extremely outgoing two year old boy, he can be a little pill at times.
He does really well with saying thankyou to us. Lately, he will say thank you when we give him something or let him watch a show and then five or ten minutes later he will come to us and say, "thank you, mommy and daddy." Sometimes he will do it over and over. It's pretty cute.
Another cute story...
Every evening when Nick gets home we hear the garage door go up. Josiah always yells, "Daddy home." Well the other morning, Nick went to get Josiah out of his crib and Josiah all sleepy says, "Daddy Home." Seems like Josiah was a little confused on what part of the day it was, but Nick really loved it.

No Pistachios!

We found out last weekend that Josiah is allergic to pistachios. He ate 6 pistachios and then his face started to swell up. Thankfully his throat didn't close up and he quickly got better with Benadryl. The doctor is having us carry around an epi-pen wherever we go, especially while we wait on Josiah's allergy test. They took some blood today and will test for all nuts. I'm praying pistachios will be the only reaction.
It was scary to see his face all swollen and I never want that to happen again. I am hoping he'll grow out of this quickly.

Tool Time

As anyone with a two year old son knows, they love to do whatever Daddy is doing. Nick was fixing one of our pieces of furniture and Josiah thought Daddy needed some help, so he quickly grabbed a tool and started copying Nick. I came upstairs to find them side by side fixing the door. I had to take some pictures.
