Healthy Boy

Josiah got a toy doctor set for Christmas and so I showed it to him this morning while telling him we were going to see Dr. Krause and he was so excited. I let him take the stethescope with him so he could show it off. It was pretty cute watching him show the Doctor.
He weighed in at 27 lbs and his height was 35 inches. The charts showed him as average for his age and should be tall and slender as he gets older. I thought it was a success, especially after all the weight he lost from being so sick. Dr. Krause says he's healthy!
He had two shots (didn't cry at all) and is done until he goes to school. Mrs. Krause made a animal balloon for him for being so good during the shots. And as we left, Josiah said, "Bye Bye Krause." Pretty cute.

Josiah gets to see Santa Claus

Josiah got to sit on Santa's lap at the mall today. As you can plainly see he was hardly able to control his excitment.
He really was excited though! I don't think he understood the whole picture part. We put him on Santa's lap and he was very pleased and then when we asked his to say "cheese," he looked at us like, "huh?" I guess I am just glad he wasn't screaming. He did a great job after having to wait an hour to see "Canca Claus" (Josiah's version of Santa Claus). Maybe next year we'll get a smile out of him!

Christmas Baking!

I have never really enjoyed baking. I would've rather cooked a thousand meals before baking a cake. I don't really know why. But this Christmas, I have found a new love for baking. It's probably because I have a little helper named Josiah.
He's helped me make lots of cookies and also helped Grandma Patterson frost and sprinkle sugar cookies(I will post pictures soon). He loved putting sprinkles on the cookies and he would do it so delicately.
Now that he's getting older, he likes to help Mommy rather than destroy what Mommy is doing. It is amazing how fast he's growing up. His vocabulary has grown immensely within this last week. His newest thing is calling me Mom, instead of Mommy. It makes me feel like he's a teenager. It is pretty funny though.

Our version of Frosty....without the hat

I got brave today and decided to take Josiah outside and make his very own snowman. Once we were all bundled up, we headed outside. I started making the snowman and realized the snow was not packing. So I did my best to try and sculpt the snowman and this is how it turned out...pretty small huh? I guess Nick will have to try to make a bigger snowman for our little guy. He seemed pretty excited about though, except for the fact that Frosty didn't have a hat.

"I love you Frosty!"

Josiah has a new best friend. Not that he had a best friend before. Although I guess I would consider Thomas the Train his favorite thus far. Last night, Josiah was given a Frosty the Snowman from Grannie and Granddad.

For the last week Josiah has been watching the old Christmas movies on TV. His favorite is Frosty the Snowman and he talks about him all the time. When he got his own Frosty, he was so excited and hasn't let him go since.

I let him watch Frosty the Snowman last night and he immediately took his Frosty and sat it down right next to him. He was hugging it the whole time! He slept with him last night. Then, this morning, he was eating waffles and decided Frosty was hungry. He says to me, "Frosty the Snowman bite." So he gave Frosty some waffles. It was pretty funny.

Learning the Nativity!

Josiah was given a Nativity on his first Christmas. It is stuffed which is great for Josiah-he's already broken one of my decorations....oh well. He has learned all the characters in the Nativity, but this week he decided to change all the names.
I was in the other room and I heard him saying, "Mommy, Daddy and Josiah." So I went and watched him as he chose me to be Mary and Daddy to be Joseph and, of course, he was baby Jesus. Then he proceeded to say other names in the family to be the shepherds and wise men. It was super cute.
Another silly thing..he has to line them up perfectly. I mean PERFECTLY. Seriously, if it is a centimeter off the world will end. The same goes for all his trains. He's definitely developed a little obsession to structure/order.

Giving Back

Nick and I host a small group at our house. It's actually called a Missional Community Group, in the sense that our main purpose is living with a mission. We mainly do service projects for the community. This week we went out and bought christmas presents for four families that are in need. We were given christmas lists from each person and when I read what they wanted it made me feel so selfish. A lot of the requests were for underwear, socks, and towels. I'm glad we were able to help them in a time of need. We are praying that these families will feel the love of Christ this Christmas.

My brother came up with this great idea for our Christmas this year. Instead of buying presents for everyone, we decided to go in together and buy a goat for a family in Africa. Samaritan's Purse is a great organization where you can pick gifts to send to different countries. I think it is important to remember to give back especially during this Christmas season.

Not sure about his cupcake. This is exactly how he was on his first birthday. He's the pickiest eater I know, even when it comes to sugar!

Thanks to all who came to wish Josiah a Happy Birthday! Sorry most of the pictures are out of order. I promise I will figure it out!

Happy 2nd Birthday Josiah!!

I can't even believe I have a two year old. He's growing up so fast and I feel like I can't keep up.
He had a very fun party with all his family and got to play with both of his cousins. Fortunately we had his party early this year, because he came down with the stomach flu. After two ER visits, IVs, and lots of vomit, he is starting to feel a lot better. He is now walking and talking to me. It was horrible to watch him be so miserable. I never want to go through that again.
So today, his actual birthday, we had a very quiet evening. I am so thankful for Josiah...he's been such a blessing. Happy Birthday little man!!

Josiah's first Mohawk!

His hair was way too long for the mohawk and it didn't stay more than 5 minutes.

This is Josiah doing the "hokie-pokie." I don't know how many times I sing this song in a day!!

Play Time

Lately, Josiah has been doing a lot of pretend play. I love to watch him use his imagination so well. He really enjoys playing "night night" with his stuffed animals.
This morning was so funny and cute. He went to his room and gathered a couple blankets and a small pillow. He brought it out to the living room and then put his stuffed animal on the pillow and covered him with the blanket. Then he proceeded to kiss him, followed by an "ahhh" (he knew it was cute). Then he prayed with the stuffed animal. I helped him at this point. He said, "Dear Jesus, thank you, Amen." It wasn't said exactly like that of course. Jesus is said with a D and Amen was screamed quite loud. Then he decided to rub the stuffed animal on it's back and say "night night." Then, when the stuffed animal woke up to Josiah screaming "WAKE," it was time for him to drink some milk.
Anyway, I just thought it was so cute and wanted to share this story with you all.

A Wonderful Week of Sickness....not!!

I've always hated being sick, except for when it got me out of school. These days, it's too hard to be sick. Having a kid running around wanting your attention is just too much.
On Sunday, Josiah woke up with a whole lot of gunk in his right eye. We immediately thought it was pink eye and I started freaking out. The gunk went away fast and so Nick did research on the internet to see if we should go to the docter. Since it had cleared up so quickly we decided to wait. Josiah went down for a nap and when he woke up he had gunk in his left eye. So we quickly went to the doctor and they said he had an eye infection. So they gave us some antibiotic eye drops to give him and they have worked great. The only awful thing is putting the eye drops in his eyes - Josiah HATES it!
On Monday, it was my turn to get sick. I woke up fine, then around 11 a.m. I got this terrible sore throat, headache, and I was extremely tired. I started to worry, because I felt the exact same way when I had mono. I figured it was either that or strep throat and since I was supposed to babysit Brayden I decided to go to the doctor. They did a strep test, it was negative. He didn't think it was mono, so he gave me antibiotics. I am already feeling better.
Josiah likes it when I'm sick because he gets to watch TV and pretty much do whatever. It was hard enough putting eye drops in his eyes when I wasn't sick, but now it's even more difficult.
Anyway...that's my week so far. It's been interesting.

CRAZY Morning!!!

It was about a week ago that I woke up to the craziest morning ever! I woke up and it was almost 9 a.m. I was a little worried because Josiah never sleeps in that late. So I go straight to his room and I hear him playing. I open the door to the strongest smell of poo. The first thing I notice is the dirty diaper on the floor alongside his clothes. He was naked with poo EVERYWHERE! In the past, he would cry if he was poopy in the mornings, but now I guess he's found his own solution to the problem. It took me forever to get his crib all clean again-washing the sheet, blankets, clothes and scrubbing down the crib.
Now I make him wear a onesie every night to keep him from taking off his diaper. Thankfully he hasn't figured out how to take that off yet!!

Silly Josiah

Josiah thought it'd be fun to put his pants on his head. He was running around and it was quite hilarious. He has quite the imagination and sense of humor-something he gets from his daddy!

"I Go Potty!"

We've introduced Josiah to the potty. He was successful the first time we put him on the potty chair. He couldn't believe that he went potty-it was too cute! He got so excited and said, "I go potty!"
After a week, he has lost a little interest in the potty chair. But I just need to take a week or so and really focus on potty training. I was just so proud of him!

I love being a mom!

Today was a great day with my little Josiah. He's such a happy boy and makes all the little things so much more fun. He's growing so fast, I wish I could slow this process down.
He's coming to the point where he really understands me. Two weeks ago, I felt like he was in "time out" all day, every day. But this weekend, he was so well behaved and made me feel like that horrible week was well worth it all. I made myself be consistent with the "time outs," and it worked! Yay! Let's pray he keeps this up!
Josiah had decided that he absolutely loves his crib. Before, I'd put him down for a nap and he'd just quietly go to sleep. Now, he jumps up and down laughing before he falls asleep. Today he was laughing and playing for a hour before he fell asleep. I'm just glad he's laughing instead of screaming!
Nick and I so thankful to have Josiah and he's brought so much joy to our lives.

"I'm Elmo!"

Josiah was Elmo for Halloween this year. He loves Elmo and he couldn't get over the fact that he was Elmo. He kept saying, "I'm Elmo!" and he didn't want to take his costume off.

We began the night by showing the grandparents and aunt's and uncle's our little Elmo. Josiah had fun showing off his costume to the family. Evan showed up as a little bear and they had fun looking at each others costumes.

Then we went to a party with some friends of ours and their little one, Brayden. We went trick-or-treating with Brayden and his parents. Josiah had fun knocking on the people's doors, but didn't care to much about getting candy from them.

Our New Home

After nine months of looking at houses, we finally found and bought our first home! We moved in the beginning of September and quickly painted the entire inside of the house. It is now a light brown color instead of the pale yellow I couldn't stand. We also had to do a lot of work on the yard. I swear the people before us never pulled a weed. They also planted about 30 sunflowers which were blocking the sidewalk next to our house. We removed those as fast as we could, well, Nick removed them. But I also did my fair share of weeding and helping Nick pull out ugly plants. There's still a lot we could do with the yard, but we are gonna wait till winter is over.
We are happy to have a place of our own. Josiah has especially enjoyed the house, because it is so much bigger than he's been used to. He can now run all over the house unlike before!

Pumpkin Patch

We all went to the pumpkin patch to let Evan and Josiah pick out some pumpkins. It was really entertaining because Josiah and Evan would try and pick up every pumpkin, even if the pumpkins were as big as them. They finally chose to carry around the little white pumpkins. We had a lot of fun watching them find their perfect pumpkin.
